Privacy Policy
Last Updated: November 2024
I built Respira to help people track pollen and air quality information. Your privacy is important, so I’ve designed the app to keep your data private and secure.
The Short Version
Respira collects minimal data to function. Your location is used only to fetch pollen and air quality information from environmental data providers. Your daily ratings and tracked information stay on your device. I don’t have access to your data and therefore will never sell your data.
What Data Respira Collects
Location Data
Respira needs your location to show you relevant pollen and air quality information. This location data is sent to:
- Cloudflare Workers (my backend service)
- Google Pollen API (for pollen data)
- Google Air Quality API (for air quality data)
You can save multiple locations and switch between them, or use your device’s current location.
Daily Ratings and Tracking
You can rate how you feel each day and track which pollutants or pollen types you want to monitor. This information is stored entirely on your device and syncs via iCloud to your other devices if you choose to enable iCloud sync. I never see this data.
Data can be analyzed locally on your device to show you patterns and correlations between environmental conditions and your daily ratings. This analysis happens entirely on your device—nothing is sent to me or any third party.
Settings and Preferences
Your saved locations, alert thresholds, notification preferences, and other settings are stored on your device and optionally synced via iCloud.
What I Don’t Collect
I don’t collect or store:
- Your name or email address (unless you contact me for support)
- Any personally identifiable information
- Your daily ratings or tracked items
- Analytics about how you use the app
Third-Party Services
Respira uses these services to function:
Cloudflare Workers
A service that helps make requests to environmental data providers and handles authentication.
Google Pollen API & Air Quality API
Provides pollen and air quality data for your locations, including forecasts and historical information.
iCloud (Optional)
If you enable iCloud sync, your preferences, saved locations, daily ratings, and tracked items sync across your devices via iCloud. This data never leaves Apple’s servers and I never see it. You can disable iCloud sync anytime in Settings.
RevenueCat
Handles subscription management for premium features. RevenueCat processes payment information but does not have access to your health-related data or daily ratings.
Each of these services has their own privacy policies. Your location data passes through these services only to provide you with environmental information.
Data Retention
- Environmental data cache: Automatically refreshed every 5-30 minutes
- Historical environmental data: Up to 30 days (in compliance with data provider terms)
- Your daily ratings: Kept on your device until you delete them
- Old data cleanup: Environmental data older than 30 days is automatically removed
Data Security
Your data syncs via iCloud using Apple’s encryption. Your daily ratings and correlations never leave your devices. Location data sent to fetch environmental information is not stored or logged by me.
Your Rights
You can:
- View all data stored in the app
- Delete individual entries or all data
- Disable iCloud sync at any time
- Revoke location permissions through device Settings
- Export your data (available in app Settings)
Changes to This Policy
If I make significant changes to this privacy policy, I’ll update this page and note the date at the top. I might also notify you through the app.
